Mobile Office
Friday 15 April 2022
Covid introduced a number of difficulties. The largest was the problem of working with close-knit teams in an Agile way, and closely behind that was the restriction on visiting staff sites (and now the resistance to having more people than necessary onsite).
One of the benefits of software is being able to work remotely. However, sometimes this just isn't possible - for example some of our secure government roles, and some of our IoT projects where we have to be onsite to see valves open/close, check sensors, see that something really does happen. For those cases we have our mobile office.
It's fully equipped for stand-alone use, with a 400ah lithium battery bank, charging from both the engine and solar panels (and a 'shore' line when we're onsite). A 3kw inverter provides mains electricity through standard 13a plug sockets just like in the office.
There is heating, hot and cold running water, a fridge/freezer and even a loo.
Our internet is a fast LTE (often referred to as 4.5G) router, which regularly provides us with downloads of >100mb/s and upload of >50mb/s - so it's faster than our office connection!
But the most important piece of equipment is a really good bean-to-cup coffee machine!
